Seven Ukrainian Poems a Week
Modern Ukrainian poetry, translated into English by Victor Shepelev.
A new poet every week, mostly (but not exclusively) those currently serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
I am translating poems that are mostly (but not exclusively) written in the last two years, and, therefore mostly (but not exclusively) related to the war. Only non-rhymed poems (not because I don’t believe in rhyme, but because I am unable to translate them adequately).
Published a poem/day on my Twitter @zverok. This mailing list (supposedly on Mondays) is the summary publication with all seven translations of the previous week, original texts, and brief info about the author.
About the translator
I am Victor Shepelev aka zverok, programmer and writer from Kharkiv. In AFU since March 2023; currently, I am not on the front lines and do what I can to make us more visible for a bigger world.
I am not a professional translator, so I wouldn’t claim my translations are perfect or even very good; yet, I hope they are able to convey the meaning, the energy, and the rhythm of the source.
